Wedding Party Dance

Argh. I'm really not much of a trend follower. I prefer to evaluate things independently of their context and value things that are cool on an absolute scale instead of a relative one.

That's why I was disappointed when I saw the Baby Got Back wedding dance on YouTube. Don't get me wrong; the dance was great. Well choreographed and executed! I was disappointed because I thought my own idea to have a surprise wedding dance at the reception would be unique and, well, surprising.

It turns out that the idea is becoming increasingly unoriginal. So much so that there is now a reality TV show dedicated to the idea:

The old school Bride and Groom first dance is now a thing of the past. Get ready to “Rock the Reception” with TLC as they follow two engaged couples who plan and stage an energetic, challenging and outright fun, first wedding dance. World class choreographers Napoleon and Tabitha D’umo – well known for their celebrated routines on So You Think You Can Dance, and whose many credits also include working with Beyonce, Kanye West, and Celine Dion, guide these happy couples through missteps, flailing arms, laughter and tears to get their dancing feet ready in time for the big day.
