A reader had some words of wisdom that should be taken to heart by anyone immersed in Wedding Planning Madness:
As a bridesmaid in five weddings, she remarked that she was "disappointed at how quickly even the most laid back of my friends get swept up in the must have lots of THINGS in my wedding instead of thinking about the actual ceremony and the actual marriage."
She went on to explain that one of her friends "was almost having a panic attack complaining about the little details on the way to the rehearsal dinner and I had to turn to her and say 'I love you but - You're missing it. This is your wedding and you are totally missing the Big Picture.'"

Words of Wisdom

Great post! It reminds me of my very best friend in the whole world- like you, she and her fiance had decided to purchase a home at the same time as their wedding. They were to close on the house on Friday, rehearse on Saturday, and marry on Sunday. She arrived at the rehearsal a wreck and as soon as she saw me she burst into tears- on the day they were to close on the house the husband/father of the selling family had a heart attack and died in the house. My friend was crying because now they might not be able to move in right away, and she was disgusted that a dead man had been in their new home. I had to pull her aside and tell her to think about how lucky she was. Here was this man in his 30's who had just died, leaving a wife and 2 kids behind. I'm not sure if my words really hit home with her, but I had to try to show her the big picture about her situation. I couldn't believe how selfish she was being. (and nothing happened with the house- they were able to close and start moving in immediately). It's amazing how self-centered a lot of brides can be. I love your posts because you inspire us to constantly think of the big picture and not just ourselves.
That is some great advice! Me and my two sisters are all getting married within' the next year. I'll be sure to remember this. There is bound to be some chaos.
