For those of you whose New Year's resolutions (or just your general life commitments) involve exercise, you might be interested in this exercise video: 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels.
In general, I prefer to exercise outside (my goal is to run three miles--very slowly!--at least four times a week). However, sometimes it's hard to set aside enough time to get to the park. Take yesterday, for example. When Matt took the dog outside to go to the bathroom at 6am yesterday morning, he realized that both our cars were missing. Seriously. Both of our cars were stolen from our driveway. (UPDATE: Matt's car was found abandoned a half mile away from our house with just the bike rack and his soccer cleats missing. The crooks left his wallet, passport, and iPod. Go figure. Unfortunately, my car is still missing.)
Even though I don't believe it's healthy to lose 20 pounds in 30 days (as advertised), I do like the way the video combines cardio, strength, and ab work. The video is broken into three cycles: three minutes of strength, two minutes of cardio, and one minute of abs. You repeat the cycle (with different exercises) three times. With the warm-up (2 minutes) and cool down (2 minutes), the total exercise time is only 22 minutes. You need hand weights (or cans) and a padded surface for the floor exercises). Voila!
My mom and I did the video two days in a row, and we were really hurting. I appreciate how quickly the video flies by. It's too quick to hate it too much, and the price is very reasonable. Also, the Amazon reviews are numerous and favorable.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your cars! At least they left all of Matt's personal information intact. Here's to hoping yours turns up soon.
Ahh I hope they find your car!!! What kind of nutcase steals TWO cars right from someone's driveway?!?!?! ..... on another note, I think I want that workout video...
I also have the shred, it isn't too bad :)
PS. On Demand has a few great exercise videos too, including Jillian michaels!

ugh- i hope you guys are able to get your car back soon! how gross :-P
and also, thanks for the exercise video review! i'm working on gaining muscle strength/losing weight due to chronic illness, and i've looked at different exercise dvds- however, the choices are overwhelming. nice to know there is a good, well-balanced (and short!) routine out there :)
So sorry about your cars! That is awful!
My roommate and I started this before Christmas (after a recommendation from Wedding Bee...) and just moved to Level 2 last night. We were feeling pretty good about ourselves on Level 1, but Level 2 is a kick in the butt!!
I can't believe both your cars were stolen! I also can't believe how calmly and nonchalantly you can talk/blog about it! I'm impressed that you are able to see the bigger picture and realize that even a stolen car isn't the end of the world in the scheme of things. I don't know if I'd be so cool and collected if I were in the same position.
I recently had my car stolen in Atlanta and it was a surreal experience. My car was not pretty or fancy (13 yrs old with a brand new huge dent in the front due to a very minor parking lot incident the week before), nevertheless, it was a Honda - so it's easy to steal. It was found about an hour after reporting it, with a rifle in the trunk (found by us after the police and the CSI type people had left and already "checked" the car for clues...what a joke). The feeling I had when I realized my car was not where I had left it was just a lack of emotion/odd confusion. I thought my fiance had decided to take it to school without telling me, and only after checking in with him did I realize that the car was stolen. At any rate, this is getting long, but we did get our car back (along with a large repair bill for messed up ignition) and I am oh so thankful. I feel for you and I hope that by some miracle (or odd coincidence as was my case) they find your car.
Sorry about your cars! Hopefully the other one will turn up soon.
You can also get workout videos from Netflix to see if you like them before you decide to purchase one. Or just keep it for a few weeks and send back for a new one. I tried out the 30 day shred for a few weeks before I finally went and bought it. What a workout!
So sorry about your cars!!
I have the DVD and have done it two times so far--it does hurt!!! haha gotta love the burn?
Some of us girls at work got together a few months ago and decided to Jillian's workout twice a week at the end of the day. Whew! It's not a joke! Even if I don't look like any more toned, I definitely feel like I got a workout.
So sorry to hear about your cars! I hope you get yours back soon.
I'm also doing the 30 Day Shred. It's a kick-butt workout, and I too love how quickly it flies by. It's hard to make excuses for not working out when all you need is a half-hour to do this. I'm still on Level 1, but am looking forward to moving up to Level 2. I'm hoping it helps me tone up before my wedding!
I really enjoy this workout dvd, but I lovingly refer to it as 30 Day Dead because it is so tough! for a 20 minute video it is a challenge -- and I love that!
Love this site, by the way. Great creative ideas!
I guess I'm the only one who wonders who leaves a wallet, passport and iPod in a car?? Still, sorry to hear about the car theft ...
@ Anonymous: You're not the only one who wonders why Matt was so irresponsible. His mom and I wondered the same thing!
So sorry to hear about your cars! It's unbelievable that they could both be taken at the same time!
