A friend of mine is marrying a long-time friend of her family, and they found this adorable picture of themselves from many years ago. My friend is on her mother's lap on the far left, and her fiance is on his sister's lap on the right.
Honest-to-god, some of their friends vetoed the idea of using this picture in their Save-the-Dates. What?!? It's adorable! (And even if it weren't, it's still their Save-the-Dates and their prerogative!)
Sheesh!

Yes, it's their save the dates so they kind do what they want.. but I agree with friends who don't like it. When you see old pictures like this, you immediately think family - brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. Add in the fact that everyone in the picture does looks like they could be related. I definitely wouldn't want to send something around that looks like I'm marrying a brother or cousin. I'd use it somewhere else, but not the save the dates, unless EVERYONE receiving one knew the history of the picture, otherwise, just plain creepy.
I think its cute! No one would get it confused if it said something like "friends from birth" or something that played up the fact that they've known one another so long. I mean, I think that is cute. Who WOULDN'T find it cute?!
I just love it!
Do it sister! That's a great idea and the wedding is yours... Be happy!
I can see soliciting opinions from friends & loved ones ... but veto power? I say if somebody thinks it should be done differently, then let them throw their own darn wedding.
i say do what you want - but i have to admit, when i see this picture, it seems like a cute family pic. i think that if it was just the two babies or the moms and the babies, it would be less creepy. but with all the kids, it does seem very much like they are related somehow. i think the friends that are saying no may be seeing something similar, and worried about the perceptions people have.
WHAT! They should absolutely use it, this picture is insanely adorable.
aw. this would look so great photoshopped to "fade" the background and family members so that the couple pop out. (would also look less like they were siblings). even if they don't use it, what a great picture to have!
Some added explanatory text is all that's needed: "Sue on her Mom's lap, Brad on his sister's -- one of their first 'dates'". Adding thought balloons for both babies could also be really fun and keep the focus on the couple. Adorable!
This is adorable! Screw the naysayers.
i think it's cute. they should use it wherever they want to. honestly? i kind of agree with the first poster. if i received it i'd wonder who these people were. however, i'd use it in a wedding slideshow, if i were to have one.
Maybe it got vetoed (!!) because many people aren't very creative with save the date postcard photos? They probably expect to see a pic of the happy couple from an engagement shoot with the words "Save the Date."
I agree that it would be strange to receive a family-looking photo with just the words "Save the Date." But, un, I immediately thought of similar suggestions to those above - word bubbles, arrows, "they met in 1982", etc. It would be ADORABLE, it just needs some context. Because how sweet is it that they've known each other for their entire lives?
I think this is awesome. Meeting as infants is ridiculously romantic. Most people invited would know that these two are NOT relatives. What is the fuss?!
