This is Matt Bradford again. To remind you, I'm the #4 of our family behind Hoss, Sara and the chickens.
On our LONG trip back to Houston from Sara's parents in Florida, on New Year's Day I rediscovered our wedding playlists on Sara's iPod (it hadn't been updated in a year and a half).
Now, this may not seem like something that's post-worthy, but let me walk you through my surprise:
- I'm the official iPod updater in our family. Not that Sara doesn't have music tastes or interests of her own, simply that she is the type of person perfectly happy listening to and fast-forwarding through the same songs for more than a year-and-a-half.
- I had created several playlists for our wedding day that were the product of many, many hours of downloading and research that I will be posting over the next three weeks:
- Ceremony - Pre
- Ceremony - Post
- Reception - Dinner
- Reception - Dancing
- We had these playlists on my iPod for all the wedding festivities but, in the case that my iPod failed, we had them backed-up on Sara's iPod.
- Because of my oft-rotated mp3s and playlists, somewhere in the past year-and-a-half I had lost/deleted (or thought that I had) the playlists forever.
Today's playlists will be the "Ceremony - Pre", i.e. the music played as guests were arriving and we were getting setup, and "Ceremony - Post", i.e. concluding, picture time and driving away. Most of the songs can be found by searching http://www.hypem.com/, some can be found at http://www.daytrotter.com/, and my dear friend Galia has a MySpace page as well as other places to buy/download her awesome music.
Ceremony - Pre
- Ben Gibbard - You Remind Me of Home
- Amos Lee - Keep it Loose, Keep it Tight
- Dave Matthew's Band - #34
- The Decembrists - Red Right Ankle
- Devotchka - You Love Me
- Beirut - The Winner Is
- Feist - The Park
- Feist and the Constantines - Islands in the Stream
- Galia Arad - Don't Go
- Guillemots - My Chosen One
- Laura Gibson - Hands in Pockets
- The Waterboys - Sweet Thing
- Jens Lekman - Your Arms Around Me
- Cat Stevens - Here Comes My Baby
- Devotchka - 'Til the End of Time
- Edith Frost - Easy to Love
- Guillemots - Made-up Lovesong #13

I've only read the Pre-Ceremony list and I'm already in love. But I shouldn't be surprised you guys have such wonderful taste in music! Love it!
Love, love, love it! It's a good thing these lists were restored. I'm especially excited for the dinner and dancing categories.
Yay!! Im excited because the music aspect of planning is something im very very afraid of.. I've purposefully not thought about it.
Im well aware of the importance of playlists (from many many hours making those good ol fashioned mixed tapes) but maybe these posts will help me shed my fear.
Could not be better timing! We're also going the iPod route and we have yet to start compiling music for our April 1 wedding and this will make it much less overwhelming - THANKS!
oh i'm so excited to read the rest of your lists!
I'm so excited that you're posting these! I was just composing my call for input from special guests about what to put in the reception playlist(s). Now I can use your ideas too! love it!
YES! I am SO grateful for your insight! My partner and I are in the process of compiling our playlists, and your song lists will help GREATLY!
Holy shit I love you and your list already. Guillemots' Made Up Love Song #43 was deeefinitely played at our reception. I'm also a big ol' fan of beirut, DMB, ben gibbard, feist, devotchka, the decemberists, and Cat Stevens, but I forget whether they made it onto the list. Feist definitely did, but with some other song(s). I gave my brother more music than he needed to work with, and I was a little.. preoccupied while the music was playing. ;]

Yes, there are cases in which an iPod is a perfectly viable alternative to a DJ for wedding entertainment. I just wish some couples would tone down their rhetoric.
I can understand a couple not having enough money for professional entertainment. But it hurts when a couple tries to justify using a cheaper alternative by smearing all wedding DJs as cheesy and obnoxious. Our web site posts dozens of recent references, with phone numbers; and anyone is welcome to ask our clients whether our performance was cheesy. Other professional DJ firms will also be happy to put prospects in touch with real clients.
If a DJ is within your budget, stick with DJ companies that have earned the Better Business Bureau’s perfect A+ customer satisfaction rating. Just visit bbb.org to find them.
