On a side note, I'm in the throes of planning a wedding for July 2013.
I'm so grateful that I discovered your site. It has truly been a godsend. I've been sweating about the small stuff since I got engaged this past May.
In retrospect, I wish I had put my foot down on a couple of things earlier. I didn't want an engagement ring.
Yes, it was thoughtful and endearing yet I didn't see how it would play a role in the grand scheme of things when we finally decide to go join the Peace Corp a few years from now. I couldn't imagine myself wearing a diamond ring and living in a mud hut in Africa.
But my angel-of-a fiance is older than me - more conservative and traditional. He truly believed in this tradition and it hurt his feelings that I would even consider not having a ring. I even suggested just a CZ and that didn't fly very well too. Lol!
I also wanted a non-traditional and simple white infinity dress but he was envisioning a princess-type of gown. Arghhh...
I know his heart is in the right place in that he wants to give me a beautiful wedding. So I've made these little compromises.
What I didn't compromise on is that I told him that we couldn't spend any more than $5,000 for the wedding (He originally wanted a $10,000 budget. I nearly fainted.).
So instead of a gown, I will be wearing a simple but pretty bridesmaid dress. I'm slowly indoctrinating him in the non-traditional route.
Some days, it seems like there is this taste of chili in both of our lips. Too much heat about the little details. But most days, it's still a lot of the sweetness of honey.
I will start blogging about my $5,000 journey just to keep my sanity. Again, many thanks for your ideas and advice.
